act as “liaison” between the oppressed & the oppressor
promise the oppressor to keep the oppressed under control & promise the oppressed he will alleviate their suffering
are perturbed by violence (committed by the oppressed), yet power = how much violence you can bring against your enemy
will raise moral and ethical concerns about violence to the oppressed
have an important role, which is to stop confrontation, and will call for “law and order” to do so
are afraid to alienate anyone
are only open to change that will not threaten his position & his power
do not understand the difference between influence (which he fights for) & power (which he lacks)
will appeal to humanism to distract from his pitfalls
are part of the oppressor, while saying he is disgusted by the oppression
